A Fruit Juice Diet is Nature’s Cure: Fact of Fiction? Almost everyone I coach on the phone or in my office asks me about going on a fruit juice diet. They’re eager to know the shortest route between them and their weight loss goals, and they’ve heard about the dramatic results that juice fasting can provide. Year after year of results convinces me that juice fasting is by far the most beneficial thing anyone can do to supercharge their health and well being. Not to mention it’s the absolute fastest road to weight loss and the body of your dreams. But fasting on fruit alone or embarking upon and all fruit juice diet may prove to be a bit problematic. Read on.
The truth is that while there are many health benefits to fruit, it does contain a large amount of natural sugars and is best when are eaten whole with their fibres intact. Juice fasting is powerful simply because when you elect to juice a fruit or a vegetable you remove the bulk, or the fibre, from the part of the plant that offers nutritional benefit. You will then only ingest the nutritive part, the part that actually contains all of the necessary nutrients that you need. This will enable your body to receive all of the necessary fuel it needs without having to spend a great deal of energy breaking it down. This energy will then be saved for cleansing.
In lieu of a fruit juice diet, I advise my clients
to take in a rainbow variety of fresh juices on their fasts. This ensures all their nutrition is being taken care of for the day leaving them with maximum energy. While fruits such as apples can provide a great base for many juices, if consumed alone they spike the blood sugar which then drops shortly after leaving you with less energy than you had when you started. Obviously, this is not the effect we desire when we take on a juice fast.
If you feel you can’t give up fruit juice, no worries. But it is essential that you add greens such as spinach, watercress, or kale to your fruit juice. These greens will help the sugars be absorbed slowly into your system which will prevent unwanted spikes in energy fluctuation and equalize your energy levels.
Consider this following recipe if you want to share in my breakthrough fasting guide at www.breakthroughfasting.com.
Kate’s Green Dragon
1-2 green apple (or any variety)
Two stalks of celery
1/2 cucumber
2 handfuls of kale or 3 handfuls of spinach
1/2 to a whole lemon depending on your preference
The point of combining different types of vegetables into the diet, especially greens, is to prevent blood sugar spikes and to keep your energy levels stable while you cleanse. At the same time you will be offering your body a huge variety of nutrition and this will help it to work harder in getting clean, healthy, and thin from within!
